part 2 in Overcoming Temptation Sin Comes For the Anointing 4/26/09 AM Pastor King Luke 4:1-13 - Jesus full of the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days and at the end of them he was hungry. The devil said to him "If you are the Son of God tell this stone to become bread." Jesus answered "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone.?" The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him "I will give you all their authority and splendor for it has been given to me and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me it will all be yours." Jesus answered "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.'" The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God" he said "throw yourself down from here. For it is written: " 'He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" Jesus answered "It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" When the devil had finished all this tempting he left him until an opportune time. ? Temptation comes from the devil. ? You can?t overcome temptation unless you do it the same way Jesus did by using the Word in Jesus? name. ? Don?t test yourself because you will have to live up to your boasts. o When you boast about how spiritual you think you are that is when you will be tempted and likely fail. o God will allow you to see where you are so that you can see your frailty and that you are dependant upon Him. Luke 4:14 - Jesus Rejected at Nazareth Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit and news about him spread through the whole countryside. ? All that Jesus did came after a period of great testing. ? The devil wants to steal your anointing. ? Without the anointing you are powerless. You are tempted so he can stop the anointing from working in your life. ? You destroy the anointing on your life when you allow the temptation to take you into sin. ? You can?t complete the work that God called you to do without His anointing on your life to do it. I Corinthians 10: 12-13 - So if you think you are standing firm be careful that you don't fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. ? It is always a problem when you over-estimate your ability. ? ?take heed? _ temptation is common to all men. o James 4:7 - Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Luke 22:44 _ And being in agony He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. ? Jesus knew temptation in the Garden of Gethsamane. ? He resisted the pressure to avoid the cross until His sweat actually became drops of blood. o Hebrews 12:4 _ You have not yet resisted to bloodshed striving against sin. ? A casual approach to sin is not OK with God. ? Weakness is not a valid excuse. ? You can?t keep dancing around sin and making excuses. ? Will God still love you? YES ? Will you still go to Heaven? MAYBE ? Will God be pleased with you? NO ? Proverbs 10:22 _ to do evil is sport to a fool. Galatians 5:23 _ gentleness self-control. Against such there is no law. ? Self-control _ get it under control. Hebrews 4:13 _ 15 - Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Therefore since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens Jesus the Son of God let us hold firmly to the faith we
